SCOTTISH Apprenticeship Week finished with a flourish in the Highlands with an all-ages apprenticeship extravaganza at the Eastgate Shopping Centre.
Careers development agencies Developing Young Workforce – Inverness and Central Highland (DYWICH) and Skills Development Scotland (SDS) joined forces with employers to show Highlanders the opportunities on their doorstep in a fun and friendly way, including offering mocktails to thirsty shoppers.
SDS and DYWICH staff and representatives from a range of businesses and sectors, ranging from the armed forces to construction and from energy to agriculture, were on hand to offer young people and their families advice on careers, the benefits of vocational learning and information about the range of schemes available.
DYWICH programme manager Andy Maxtone said: “Events like this are a great way of letting people know about the opportunities for great careers right here in the Highlands.
“The world of work is always changing and apprenticeships are too. It can be really difficult to know the best way to get into an industry, or even what type of jobs are out there. Events like this show people that university isn’t the only way to get from where you are to where you want to be.”
