A BLACK Isle musician who decided to cheer up her lockdown with an impromptu fiddle concert ahead of last week’s Clap for Carers event also chimed with neighbours.

And now, fiddler Freya Taylor, a pupil at Fortrose Academy, may soon be joined by others.

She said: “It was great. We’re fairly isolated and music’s a fantastic way to lift the spirits and bring people together – even when physically distanced.

"This is definitely something we’ll do regularly and develop. I’m thinking of sharing a tune around all my neighbours for next week so anyone who plays can play together. If my friends in other parts of the Black Isle wanted to organise something as well that would be fantastic.”

The teenager, who lives in the Killen area, hopes neighbours might be inspired to join in.

Local resident Sarah Atkin hopes to coordinate interest. She said: “Lockdown is difficult for many, especially the young. The Black Isle is full of fantastic young musicians. Please get in touch if you want to be involved. There are quite a few locations where people can view/listen from their gardens or outside their homes, observing distancing rules and able to enjoy live performance.”

Accomplished young musicians on the Black can message Fortrose and Rosemarkie Community Council via Facebook or email fortrosemarkie@gmail.com
