A range of local community groups in Strathpeffer have benefitted from the recent round of funding from the EDF Renewables Corriemoillie wind farm.

Awards have supported everything from Christmas lights to boat-building, and will help residents and local groups celebrate the festive season.

Strathpeffer Community Council received an award of £1,962.95 to purchase and connect additional Christmas decorations to light up the village throughout the winter.

Ron McAulay of Strathpeffer Community Council said: “We are delighted to extend the Christmas light display all through the village – it looks great and we are grateful to have the EDF Renewables Funds to help brighten up the village.”

Strathpeffer Pavilion, which recently came into community ownership, received £2680 to purchase a lawn tractor and brush-cutter to help local volunteers maintain the grounds around the iconic Pavilion. The equipment will be available to other community groups in the village to borrow helping to ensure good value for money for the Fund.

Strathpeffer and District Community Rowing Club was awarded £3000 to purchase materials, safety equipment and a trailer to complete a second boat and increase the opportunities for coastal rowing. Landlocked Strathpeffer is unique in having a coastal rowing group, based at Foulis, which gives people the opportunity to experience boat building and the popular sport of coastal rowing in the Cromarty Firth and at events around the country.

Marion McDonald of Foundation Scotland said: “It has been such a tough year for many people and difficult for a lot of community groups, with activities and events all cancelled. It is great to help spread a little cheer and ensure groups are ready to get going again in 2021.”

EDF Renewables, Director of Asset Operations, Piero Maggio said: “After an unprecedented year it is excellent to see a variety of community groups in Strathpeffer benefit from the fund.

Community spirit is needed more than ever and I hope the funding can assist with keeping this alive over Christmas and into the new year.”

The Corriemoillie Strathpeffer Community Fund is one of several benefiting communities close to the Corriemoillie Wind Farm and provided by operator EDF Renewables.

Charities and not-for-profit community groups working to benefit people in the Strathpeffer Community Council area can apply for grants from the fund.

The next application deadline is March 15, 2021. The panel of local volunteers who make grant awards can also consider applications on a case-by-case basis in between rounds if a decision is genuinely required at short notice.
