FREE wi-fi has gone live in three Easter Ross towns – as a wider roll-out across Highland communities continues.

Tain, Alness and Invergordon’s town centres now offer free wi-fi thanks to the ‘High-Fi’, which has been paid for by the Inverness and Highland City-Region Deal and is being spearheaded by Highland Council.

The scheme is aimed at stimulating economic growth and will increase digital inclusion across the Highlands.

Some 14 Highland towns are receiving the free wi-fi access in the lates phase of the roll-out, including Dingwall and Ullapool.

"This project is fantastic news for Tain, Alness and Invergordon and I am sure it will be welcomed by everyone who lives here, as well as visitors to the area," said Councillor Fiona Robertson, the chairwoman of the Ross and Cromarty area committee.

"Digital connectivity is essential these days for everything we do and free access to wi-fi will enable visitors and locals to make the most of local businesses by checking what’s on, where to visit in the area, opening hours, accommodation and prices, as well as finding local job opportunities and keeping in touch with family and friends."

To access the new wi-fi service turn on wi-fi on your phone or other electronic device and search for the town name and WiFi_Free (High-Fi) – so Tain’s would be Tain_WiFi_Free (High-Fi).
