SOPRANO Aileen Birch joins a group of Highland musicians for a special concert set to benefit a much-respected charity this Friday.

The quirkily named group, The Marvel of Peru, specialise in fresh performances of Baroque music from Scotland and England, including works by Paisible, Clerk, Oswald and the Earl of Kelly.

The concert, in the drawing room of Foulis Castle near Evanton, will raise funds for Highland Hospice — with the bonus of tea and home bakes served at the interval.

The Marvel of Peru’s director James Ross said of the group’s unusual name: "It comes from the name of one of the pieces we play. James Oswald wrote a number of delightful miniatures called Airs for the Seasons, each one called after a flower, and one of the most memorable is dedicated to the spectacular Marvel of Peru."

Tickets for the event are bookable in advance by e-mail from ross.coronach@virgin.net or by calling 01349 830 366.
