A FORMER Achiltibuie telephone exchange building has been sold for £42,000 – nearly three times the guide price of £15,000.

The building had been attracting 'huge amounts of interest' prior to auction last week, as the quirky property offers stunning views of the Summer Isles and beyond.

Online Property Scotland, who auctioned the property on March 9, sold other telephone exchange buildings last year for more than five times their guide price of £15,000, selling in auction for £70,000–£80,000.

The building located within the centre of Achiltibuie, looks out over the Summer Isles to the south, with views of Harris and Lewis to the west. Ullapool is a 25-mile drive from the former telephone exchange, and the stunning Achnahaird beach is only three miles away. The property also comes with a rowan tree, which is thought to 'ward off witches' in the area.

Online Property Scotland said: "We have had a huge amount of interest in the property, the sale of these buildings is intriguing because there is a huge amount of interest of people wanting to turn these into tiny houses or holiday lets. And these quirky buildings can make the seller quite a bit of money too."
