HIGHLAND Foodbank has received a donation from a more traditional type of bank.

The scheme – designed to support people struggling to afford food – has received a donation of £200 from TSB Inverness to help buy necessities for food parcels.

The donation is part of a nationwide Christmas donation programme by TSB, which is giving every one of its branches money to gift to a local cause, as a little extra support at this time of year.

Gary Chiffers, bank manager at TSB Inverness, said: "We chose to give this money to Highland Foodbank because it’s one of the busiest food banks in the UK due to the geographical area it covers, and we know that the team really needs some extra support over the Christmas period.

"In the past year they have helped over 6000 people who have been struggling. It’s fantastic to know that the £200 we are giving them will really make a difference to people in our local community."

Highland Foodbank is part of the work of the Blythswood Care charity.

Lorna Dempster, food bank co-ordinator, said: "We’re extremely grateful to the Inverness branch of TSB for this donation.

"It will go a long way in the coming weeks to help provide food for people that need help this Christmas."

TSB Inverness also announced its charity partner for 2017/18 as the Special Needs Action Project, an organisation that offers a range of services for children and young people who have learning disabilities.
