Gairloch Museum has reopened its doors boasting not one but two new temporary exhibitions.
Cindie Reiter, an artist based in Lochcarron will be displaying her beautiful Botanical Artwork. Lusan nan Gàidheal ~ Flora Gadelica focuses on the plants, herbs and flowers of the Highlands.
As well as her detailed botanical watercolours the exhibition includes a number of Cindie’s oil paintings.
In 2017 Cindie attended a botanical workshop at Inverewe Gardens as part of an outreach project with The Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, and found a new passion was born.
“Botanical Art has engaged me in an entirely new way and I’ve continued to study with the The Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh. It has transformed my practice and dovetails beautifully with my love of plants and gardens.” Cindie’s exhibition has been further fuelled by her interest in the Gaelic names, rich cultural history and folklore that surrounds our native vegetation.
There’ll be an opportunity later this month to dive deeper into that rich background with Ruairidh MacIlleathain, who will be running two workshops for the museum that introduce the Gaelic names, uses and traditions connected to our native plants. These events will take place via Zoom, on May 18 and May 25 and you can book your place via the museum’s website https://www.gairlochmuseum.org/events
Another new exhibition is on display downstairs at the museum. Scotland from the Sky 2 features photography drawn from Historic Environment Scotland’s aerial photography collection. From the dramatic coastline to the impact of industry and the changing landscape, the exhibition gives you a new perspective on the landscape, one that many of us wouldn’t usually get to enjoy. Scotland from the Sky and Lusan nan Gàidheal ~ Flora Gadelica will be on display during May and June.
