A FACE familiar to army cadets in a Ross-shire community has saddled up for an ambitious fundraising effort for a cause close to her heart.

Flora Thomson a Sergeant Instructor at Fortrose Detachment 1 Highlanders ACF has pledged to raise £1921 for Poppyscotland.

Ms Thomson has been a poppy collector for over 30 years.

The Scottish Poppy Appeal raises over £2 million each year. Poppyscotland was established in 1921 as The Earl Haig Fund Scotland but adopted its current name and logo in 2006 to reflect its revised fundraising activities and welfare services work.

The fundraiser is celebration of 100 years of the poppy.

The cadets she oversees in normal times meet in the same hut where her grandfather led the Sea Scouts.

Having had family members serve in the Army and the Navy, she has always had the Armed Forces at heart, which is why she has decided to take on this fundraising challenge.
