More than £5000 was raised in support of a Gaelic cultural centre for the Highland capital within hours of a fundraiser being launched.

It is hoped that the new hub will become the new Highland home for Gaelic speakers in the region.

Cultarlann Inbhir Nis are behind the plans and have set an ambitious initial target of raising £50,000 over the next eight weeks.

The group held a launch even in Inverness on Monday morning as the fundraising page went live online.

And by 5pm more than £5000 - a tenth of the target - had already been donated.

Today the fund reached more than £8000.
