A FLOOD alert remains in force across Wester Ross this morning, amid a continuing weather warning for heavy rain in parts of western Scotland.

This morning, the Met Office reduced the size of the area covered by its yellow warning, removing Mid Ross from the alert but leaving Wester Ross within the affected area.

A flood alert from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) - one of three in force across Scotland - is also currently in effect.

Sepa urged motorists to take care on roads, which “could [experience] flooding from surface water and small watercourses”.

They added: “This could include flooding to low-lying land and roads with difficult driving conditions. Some rivers are expected to respond to the heavy rain and could cause disruption due to flooding.”

“Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.

“Advice and information is also available through Floodline on 0345 9881188. If you haven't already signed up to receive free flood messages, please call Floodline or register online at sepa.org.uk/floodingsignup. Your Floodline quick dial number for the [Wester Ross] area is 22800.”

The Met Office’s yellow warning for rain remains in force until midnight tonight.

A spokesman for the organisation said: “Rain, heavy at times, will continue across north-western Scotland on Monday which may lead to some flooding and travel disruption.”
