Flashback to 1973 in Wester Ross shared by the National Library of Scotland

A virtual tour of the Highlands is being offered by the National Library of Scotland's moving image collection.

Titled Gardens by the Sea, the video takes a trip along a Highland road in Wester Ross in 1973, before visiting Loch Ewe, mountains, and peninsula where Poolewe Gardens are situated with visuals of trees, plants and flowers in the gardens

Directed by Edward McConnell the film then goes onto visit other gardens including Kirkcudbright, Port Logan, Culzean Castle, Arran, Ghia and Colonsay.

The film was sponsored by Films of Scotland, the Scottish Tourist Board and National Trust for Scotland and was produced by IFA (Scotland)

It lasts for 27 minutes, and was originally filmed on 35mm cameras.

It was filmed by Muir Mathieson and Edward McConnell and the commentary is voiced by Pete Morgan and John Sheddon.
