A council worker was reported to police after his vehicle was seen swerving on the Kessock Bridge and Longman Road.

Officers who went to his house were told by Gordon Hearn that he had consumed one glass of wine when he got home. However his alcohol level was 120mcg when the limit is 22mcg.

Hearn (66), of Gordonville Road in Inverness, admitted the charge and was fined £675 and banned from driving for 21 months.

Solicitor Marc Dickson told Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald: "The background is that Mr Hearn at the time was suffering from a medical condition. It caused him dizzy spells which may have caused him to drive in the way he was driving."

Mr Dickson added that his client has a heart condition and has been in touch with the DVLA about this and has had his licence revoked on medical grounds, and he doesn't intend to drive again.

"He apologises for what has taken place," added the solicitor.

Sheriff MacDonald told Hearn: "You were over five times the drink-drive limit. That is significant and you also have a previous conviction for not giving a sample to police."
