THERE was a large audience for the final Dingwall & District Accordion & Fiddle Club of the season.

The musical extravaganza was held at the Legion Club in Dingwall.

Ian Simpson welcomed a large audience for an evening kickstarted by a talented group of young musicians from Feis Ross.

Fiddlers were Hannah, Emma, Tilly, Ruairidh and Harrison. Theo and Robert played guitars and Jack completed the line-up on his accordion. Their music was rewarded with some warm applause and hopes of a return before long.

A spokeswoman for the event said: “It was encouraging to see many local players. We had duos, trios as well as solo players, all playing to a high standard.”

Accordionists were Graham Wood, Cammie MacLean, Monica Maclean, Susie Simpson, Colin Donaldson and Fraser Donaldson.

Bob Pegg from Forres gave a couple of tunes on his two row button accordion, the Bluebell Polka being a particular audience favourite. Playing keyboard were Allen Shepherd, Christine Matheson and Susie.

Drummers were Maggie Jamieson, Martin Maclean and Heather Donaldson. Zoe Livings played her fiddle with Monica and friends.

Guests on the evening were Archie McAllister from Lochgilphead and Sileas Sinclair from Oban.

Archie is a first class fiddler who can almost make his fiddle speak. Sileas, an all-round musician, gave excellent selections on her accordion as well as first class keyboard accompaniment to Archie.

Their variety of music ranged from slow airs, marches, reels to Strathspeys and Gaelic waltzes. A tribute set of jigs to the late popular Fergie MacDonald was included in their programme. Archie played a beautiful slow air inspired by walking around Kintyre and in complete contrast, the final tune was a splendid rendering of Riverdance. This was another excellent evening.

The AGM will be held on May 22 at 7.30pm in the Legion Hall, Dingwall.
