Park Primary pupils to be taught at Invergordon Academy site in temporary move following devastating fire, Highland Council confirms

PUPILS at the fire-ravaged Park Primary School are to be taught in temporary accommodation within Invergordon Academy, Highland Council has announced.

It said plans were under way to provide temporary school accommodation within the academy for pupils and staff affected by the fire – with arrangements set to be in place "before the end of the week".

Park Primary has 176 primary and 32 nursery children and Invergordon Academy has a capacity of 550 but currently only has 343 pupils at present.

The council said it would be in contact with parents "through the school channels" to keep them fully up-to-date with the arrangements.

A special parents evening is also planned for tomorrow evening (Tuesday) at Invergordon Academy to discuss the plans going forward.

Highland Council leader, Cllr Margaret Davidson said: "We would like to praise the quick, safe and efficient way staff were able to evacuate the building once the fire was discovered.

"All our schools have regular fire drills in preparation for this type of incident. We are relieved that everyone is accounted for and is safe.

"We appreciate that this has been a traumatic event for the children and staff and we will be putting the necessary support in place for anyone who needs it."

The council added that, while it was awaiting the outcome of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s investigation into the fire, it understood the blaze may have started in an old lap-top computer and that it was advising all staff not to use them until further notice.
