Permission has been granted to erect a single storey shop at Upper Docharty with anticipated hours 10am-4pm, Tuesday to Saturday.

Meat, eggs, wool and seasonal veg as well as preserves and fruit will be sold at the shop, along with gin and whisky products from the distillery plus glassware and specially branded products.

The application also mentions the possibility of stocking locally-produced crafts and it is intended that the shop would also include local historical and environmental information.

The application states: “The display area would be used to inform customers of the current and historic links Dingwall has to the whisky industry. The display would also highlight the importance of renewable energy sources and outline the farm and distillery’s use of renewables.

“There would be information provided into the Clootie Well and the reported healing rituals.”

It continues: “The position of the shop has been selected due to its proximity to the Docharty Brae access going from Dingwall to the Heights of Docharty. The site is close enough to the farm that allows deliveries to be made quick and easily with parking and turning facilities on site creating minimal disruption to locals. The close proximity to the farm also allows close management from the applicant.”

And it adds: “The hydroelectric system for Scroggie Farm is located close to the chosen site, which allows this to be utilised as the main power source for the shop thus maintaining the ecological credentials for the site.”
