ScotRail has cancelled two Far North train services today through staff shortages.

Two ScotRail services between Inverness and Caithness will be cancelled today.

Staff shortages are being blamed for the withdrawal of the 10:41 Inverness to Wick train and the return 14:00 Wick to Inverness service.

The rail operator has arranged for rail replacement buses to run instead, bringing longer journey times for passengers.

A ScotRail spokeswoman said: “This is due to a shortage of train crew.

“We have confirmed the following transport from Inverness to Wick:

* One 29 seater confirmed at Inverness at 10:41, provided by McNeils.

* One minibus confirmed at Inverness at 10:41, provided by Kineil's coaches.

* Due to the use of road transport your journey time will be extended and we apologise for the disruption to your journey on this route.

“The 16:00 Wick to Inverness due 20:14 will also be cancelled due to a shortage of train crew.

“We have confirmed the following transport from Wick to Inverness:

* One 29 seater confirmed at Wick at 16:00, provided by McNeils.

* One minibus confirmed at Wick at 16:00, provided by Kineil's coaches.”

Passengers delayed for more than 30 minutes can make a claim for reimbursement of ticket costs at ScotRail.co.uk/delay-repay.
