THE family of a Russian sailor posted missing after setting out from Ullapool in December last year have been told of the discovery of a body on a Highland beach.

It's believed that Roman Titov had left Ullapool Harbour back on December 13 last year.

The alarm was raised after wreckage debris from a yacht was found in the Strathan Bay area near Lochinver early last month.

Police said today that around 3.30pm yesterday, the body of a man was discovered at a beach at Achmelvich near Lochinver.

It said that while formal identification has yet to take place "however the family of a man reported missing from a yacht that left Ullapool on Wednesday, 13 December, 2023, have been informed".

A statement said: "There are no apparent suspicious circumstances."
