ALMOST 190 properties on the Black Isle were left without power this morning after two unrelated faults hit the local electricity grid.

Nine IV6 and IV8 postcodes in the Tore, Knockbain, Newton of Ferintosh and Munlochy area lost power at 6.35am when a tree came down on a power line in high winds. It affected 184 properties.

And a single IV7 postcode near Resolis also suffered an unrelated power outage at around 7.50am when a substation fault knocked out the electricity to four properties.

Power to all those affected by the larger outage was restored by 9.02am.

And, at the time of writing, engineers were on site working to correct the second fault.

A spokeswoman for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said: "The second fault was on our local network and affected the IV7 9LJ postcode area.

"Four customers went off at 7.51am. Engineers have been despatched to the substation and arrived at 9am. They will be identifying what caused the fuse to blow. The estimated restoration time is 11.45am but of course they will be working to improve on that."

Commenting about both outages, the spokeswoman added: "SSEN would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers, as we work to restore supply as quickly and safely as possible."
