ROSS County Football Club may have bragging rights in the Highlands as the region's only top flight side.

But a fashion designer has placed the club's face mask bottom of the league after comparing what Scotland's top outfits have come up with for brand-conscious fans keen to show their support in public during the coronavirus crisis.

In a tongue-in-cheek assessment of face coverings devised for Rangers, Celtic, Motherwell, St Mirren, Partick Thistle, St Johnstone,Kilmarnock and Ross County, Siobhan Mackenzie puts the Staggies' effort bottom of the heap – and that's despite them being her local team.

Ms Mackenzie has made a name for herself around the world after establishing her own clothing design brand. She designed the team outfits for Scotland's Commonwealth Games team and has also dressed a variety of public figures including pop star Justin Beiber.

With face masks now mandatory for most people in shops in Scotland, the significance of the covering has become ever greater as the coronavirus crisis has developed.

Ms Mackenzie was asked to run a critical eye over designs produced by clubs for a piece published on BBC Scotland's sports website.

She said of Ross County's effort – featuring an unmissable football and club crest combo: "They are my local team so I would've loved to have liked this but, oh gosh, it's a lot.

"There is so much going on - the printed materials and then a football and a team logo on top of that. It's far too garish. This is a good example of when people cut corners from having things properly designed. It kind of looks like a child has done it - is that a bit brutal? It could've been a nice, plain mask, a stag and the crest incorporated in somewhere."

It is given a 1/10 rating.

She tells it as she sees it too for the Rangers effort, comparing it to "a pair of Speedos" and finds Old Firm rivals' Celtic's could benefit from some refinement.

Kilmarnock's she finds too similar to a tea towel. But it still fares better than County's.

A simple design produced by St Mirren was a top pick.

It is more subtle designs by Motherwell and St Mirren that catch the eye of the expert who places them joint top of the league with 8/10.

The good news for Ross County fans is the club's website does offer an alternative design to the one failing to find favour here.
