Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) confirms power cut will hit several Ross-shire communities

A WIDESPREAD power outage is set to cut electricity to several Wester Ross communities on Friday – while emergency repairs are carried out.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has warned that Gairloch, Poolewe, Aultbea, Dundonnell, Laide, and Slattadale will be among the communities which will be left without power for up to four hours tomorrow afternoon.

A spokesman said: "We are planning an emergency power outage tomorrow (Friday) from 1pm to 5pm; this is to allow our engineers to safely replace a broken pole on our overhead electricity network.

"Our Priority Services team is today proactively contacting registered customers who rely on electricity for their medical needs. However, if you are not already signed-up to the Priority Services Register and have any concerns about this outage, please call the team on 0800 294 3259 as soon as possible to make them aware.

"We will make every effort to ensure the power is restored as quickly as possible and would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as our teams carry out this essential work.

The areas affected are:

  • The whole of Gairloch,
  • Kerry Falls to Red Point
  • Gairloch to Rudhreidh Lighthouse
  • The whole of Poolewe including our line to Cove
  • Poolewe to Aultbea
  • The whole of Aultbea
  • Aultbea to Mellon Charles
  • Aultbea to Laide
  • Aultbea to Dundonnell
  • Laide to Achgarve
  • Obinan, Slattadale, Loch Maree
