Coronavirus arts fund helps Highland artists and organisations, amongst them a Wester Ross promoter

A WELL-KNOWN Ullapool-based entertainment promoter is amongst the beneficiaries of a new emergency support fund set up to help Scotland's hard-hit culture sector during the Covid-19 crisis.
The Scottish Government funding has also found its way to a number of ventures across the Highlands in a bid to keep the sector ticking over.
Touring and music agency Beyond Presents Ltd, headed by Ullapool's Robert Hicks, receives £25,000 from the fund.
Award-winning neo-trad band Elephant Sessions, long established Inverness events company Limelights and popular city venue MacGregor's Bar are among those sharing in £11.75 million of emergency support for Scotland's hard-hit culture sector.
Inverness-based Elephant Sessions, who receive £10,000, are joined by other well known Scottish bands such as Skerryvore and Manran in receiving support through the Scottish Government’s Culture Organisations and Venue Recovery Fund.
Limelights, which provides audio, lighting and staging services for festivals throughout the UK including Belladrum and The Gathering in Inverness, receives £130,000 while MacGregor's Bar, owned by musician and broadcaster Bruce MacGregor, receives £30,000.
Nairn's Highland Bar Services Ltd, based at the Playhouse, has been awarded £20,000.
A total of 203 organisations and venues across Scotland have received support in the latest round of funding designed to help support the sector through the coronavirus crisis.
A further announcement will follow regarding the remaining applications and funds within the next two weeks.
Scotland's culture secretary, Fiona Hyslop said: “The Scottish Government is determined to do everything within our powers to see the sector through this crisis.
“This emergency funding will provide vital support to a wide range of cultural organisations and venues across Scotland currently facing extreme challenges due to the coronavirus pandemic. It has been designed specifically to help organisations cope with the immediate issues they are facing and to help save jobs.
“I am pleased to see such a wide range of organisations supported, from comedy clubs and theatres to galleries and production companies.”
Creative Scotland chief executive Iain Munro said: “The funds being announced today offer some further welcome support to help protect jobs across a wide range of businesses in Scotland.
“The negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on Scotland‘s creative and cultural sector are clearly ongoing, and we will continue to keep focussed, with the Scottish Government and other partners, on helping those people and organisations in most need.”
Other Highland based organisations receiving support are Lybster's North Lands Creative Glass, which gets £45,000.
