Eden Court Theatre in Inverness is continuing to stage its programme of live performances, cinema screenings and classes, it has announced.

Chief executive James Mackenzie-Blackman said although the Scottish Government has announced all large gatherings above 500 people with the potential to impact on emergency services should be cancelled, he did not envisage the venue's operation to be affected at the current time.

But he also said government announcements would be monitored closely.

The venue includes the 869-seat Empire Theatre where Inverness Musical Theatre is due to stage the classic musical comedy Hello Dolly from Wednesday to Saturday. It also includes the 275-seat One Touch theatre, two cinemas and two multi-purpose studios.

In a statement issued today, Mr Mackenzie-Blackman said: "We have, over the past weeks, provided information to all our staff and implemented precautionary measures regarding covid-19/coronavirus.

"We believe we are doing everything that is required to ensure that we are supporting the health and wellbeing of our customers and staff members.

"The Scottish Government yesterday announced that from Monday all large gatherings above 500 people with the potential to impact the emergency services should be cancelled to prioritise the covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.

"At the current time, Eden Court does not expect our operation to be affected by this announcement and as such we remain open and committed to delivering our classes, cinema and live performance programme.

"We are monitoring the guidance and government announcements closely and will act appropriately and promptly to any new advice.

"The health and safety of our staff, audiences, artists and those who take part is our number one priority."

Updated information will shared on its website eden-court.co.uk where ticketing terms and conditions can also be found.

"These are difficult times for many not-for-profit and charitable organisations like Eden Court," Mr Mackenzie-Blackman said.

"We hope that this statement offers a few words of comfort and reassurance and that those who deem themselves able will continue to visit us.

We will be here to welcome you."
