In a bid to attract the right applicant, the committee have described their ideal candidate as having "energy and enthusiasm" with a strong catering background and a reputation for "quality homemade" food.

Hall members also say they are seeking someone who can bring a "friendly disposition" to fit in with the Portmahomack community.

Committee representative Carol Summers said: "We are really keen to get the right person in post to revitalise and continue our much loved Carnegie Cafe. This is really is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to be at the heart of an amazing community.

"The new operator must be community minded, as the cafe is located in the village hall, and it is often involved in or at the heart of local events.

"We are open to hearing from anyone with the drive and enthusiasm to put a proposal forward for this much loved community asset.

"We are also open to having a more in-depth chat first if that would be useful. Interested parties can arrange this via email too."

Originally built over 120 years ago with funding from the famous philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, Carnegie Hall was extensively renovated and refurbished in 2006, at which time the cafe was opened.

Long-time operator Mary Maclean held the lease on the facility from March 2017 until May 2022, when she handed the reigns to Cameron Semmence due to health issues. The lease has now expired after two summers under Mr Semmence.

The management committee are inviting applicants to send a covering letter and outline proposal before midnight on February 17 to carnegiehallportmahomack@gmail.com.
