ORGANISERS of a successful Easter Ross community gala have been dealt a blow by vandals who trashed a toilet block.

The damage at the block on The Links in Tain was reported to local volunteers on Saturday.

Tain Gala Association said: "We are saddened to share this information with you all but on Saturday...it was reported to us that the toilet block at The Links was broken into and vandalised."

Anyone who was on The Links on Saturday who heard or saw anyone around the area is asked to contact Tain Gala Association chairman, Alasdair Rhind.

The group posted: "We understand that the containers and toilets are normally removed from The Links by this time but unfortunately our local volunteers, who we are very grateful to, have been unable to do this yet owing to their own work commitments."

A number of people have voiced disgust over the "mindless" action.

One wrote: "Time for cameras to be actually up and working in Tain in general..and ones installed down the Links.

"The way memorial benches, parks and now toilets are all being vandalised, so disrespectful...I mean what did they gain from it?"

This year's revamped gala was voted a great success and prompted an appeal for potential volunteers to get in touch.

A spokesman for the event at the time said: "We are so grateful to all the entertainers for agreeing to be part of the gala and to the community who support us either as volunteers or by attending the events.

"Our three days would not be as successful as they were without this support. We would love to welcome new volunteers and ideas onto our committee. Please don't hesitate to get in touch – we will welcome you with open arms!"
