CUSTOMERS at an Easter Ross supermarket have risen magnificently to the challenge of putting a smile on the faces of less fortunate children this Christmas.

Back in September, radio station MFR set all Tesco stores a challenge to help out in its annual appeal.

The Tain store reckoned it could chip in about £500 but in the event far exceeded that sum.

Tesco Tain community champion Ceri Cattanach said: “Our store raised £3848. Just under £4000, especially in the times we are living in, is amazing.

“We wanted to thank all our customers for their generosity.”

She went on: “All money raised stays locally. We are delighted with the amount as we only said we would pledge £500.”

For its Christmas Tesco Toy appeal, the store decided to donate to MFR Mission Christmas again so that local children would benefit.

Thanking everyone who chipped in, Ceri added: “The store manager James Stevenson and myself thought we would lay all the presents out in our staff Christmas grotto.”
