AN Alness man adopted an aggressive stance and "puffed out his chest" when confronted by police during an incident in the Highland capital.

Police were called to Inverness city centre to deal with a group of intoxicated men who were acting aggressively in the early hours just before Christmas last year.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 25-year-old Blair Tulloch, of Kirkside, Alness refused to move on and adopted an aggressive stance, "puffing out his chest", according to fiscal depute Shamielah Ghafar.

"He pushed one officer on the chest and he was put to the ground and arrested. At Burnett Road Police Station, he was searched and he had a small bag of white powder in his possession. It was cocaine weighing a gram."

Tulloch admitted police assault and threatening behaviour, committed in High Street, on December 11.

Defence solicitor advocate Neil Wilson said: "He realises alcohol is a factor but it was his choice to get into that state. He was an occasional cocaine user but is no longer. Also he has only been out once socialising since then."

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald had to shout to Tulloch who claimed he couldn't hear properly as she told him: "I am giving you a chance."

The sheriff's clerk also shouted when she repeated the sheriff's decision to defer sentence for good behaviour until December 14 .

Tulloch smirked as he left the dock.
