Invergordon bar set for new lease of life as flats as planning bid to Highland Council approved

A LONG-ESTABLISHED Invergordon bar that called last orders during the pandemic is to be converted into flats.
The owners of the Caledonian in King Street have been given permission by Highland Council to convert the ground floor into four residential properties.
A design statement for applicants Summit Highland Ltd – run by Brian Munro and wife Pauline, a Highland councillor – describes how the bar business hit difficulties before closure in March this year, and was no longer viable.
The former bar occupies only the ground floor of the three-storey building with three existing flats occupying the upper floors.
The proposal would covert the old bar to four small flats, three with one bedroom and one with two bedrooms.
The permission was issued in June under several conditions.
They include that no development shall commence until details of the finish/colour of weatherboard panels has been approved by, the planning authority to ensure that the development is sensitive to, and compatible with, local architectural styles.
Similarly, any new windows and sills shall match the colour, detailing and finish of the existing and upper floor, unless as otherwise agreed in writing .
And before the flats are occupied, the car parking and access arrangements as detailed must be completed in full and "thereafter, all car parking spaces shall be maintained for this use in perpetuity" in the interests of road safety and amenity.
