SHOP closures in two Easter Ross towns could leave the Post Office seeking new premises from which to operate.

The changes affect Invergordon and Tain.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “We are aware that our partner CJ Lang who runs Invergordon Post Office, has given us notice and the store will be closing later this year.

“The branch was run independently and while we always work hard to maintain Post Office services, from time to time, branches do temporarily close. When this happens, we always look to restore services as quickly as possible, as we know how important Post Offices are to communities.

“We would like to reassure customers that we are committed to maintaining vital Post Office services for the local community.”

The spokesman also confirmed that in Tain its partner McColl’s Retail Group, which runs the Post Office, has also given notice “and the store will be closing in the spring”.

He said that branch is also run independently and efforts will be made to restore services as quickly as possible.”

He said: “We have had interest from some local retailers who are interested in running this branch but it is very early stages so we are unable to comment further at the moment. “We would like to reassure customers that we are committed to maintaining vital Post Office services for the local community – including banking services like cash withdrawals from high street bank account, bill payments, and of course a wide range of postal services.”
