AN Easter Ross man who attacked a woman twice when she was pregnant at an address in Invergordon will be sentenced later this month by a sheriff.

Alexander Tiffin (31) went on trial for the attacks on the woman in 2014 and 2017 at a house in Fleming Way.

After her evidence before a jury, Tiffin pleaded guilty to a single charge including both incidents.

Depute fiscal Karen Aitken asked the woman to read a statement she gave to police before questioning her on the statement.

In evidence which followed she told how in one they were involved in a scuffle over a phone and Tiffin had his hand round her neck and she was "pretty scared".

She said he walked off and came back and said he had taken overdose of medication he was on.

He was withdrawn and crying and said he hated himself.

She called an ambulance and both were taken to hospital because she was pregnant at the time.

The trial was adjourned and before her evidence resumed Tiffin's defence advocate Niven Smith said he would plead to a single charge involving two separate incidents.

He admitted in December 2014 and and June 2017 assaulting the woman when she was pregnant, pushing her on to a bed and straddling her, covering her mouth and holding her by the neck and repeatedly pushing her on the body, pulling her off a couch causing her to fall to the floor.

Mr Smith said Tiffin had a conviction from Tain Sheriff Court in 2015 involving the same complainer.

The advocate said he would not concede that a custodial sentence was inevitable although he recognised the seriousness of the offence which may have caused psychological damage to his victim.

But he said what Tiffin had pleaded guilty to was assaults on two occasions, not to injury.

Sentence was deferred by Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald until November 14.

Tiffin's bail was continued.
