A former Inverness man now living in Alness spat at a police officer who had wanted to question him about another matter.

But Nathan Cowie who has moved from St Fergus Drive in Inverness to Westford, escaped a jail sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court.

As an alternative, he has to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and remain under social work supervision for 18 months.

The court heard previously that Cowie had to be restrained by Inverness city centre constables on May 18, 2021 when he became agitated.

Fiscal depute David Morton said that the 24-year-old then spat in the direction of one officer, just missing his face.

Defence solicitor David Patterson said his client, who admitted assault, was a first offender.
