An Easter Ross man who recklessly set fire to trees and grassland in Alness last summer will be sentenced next month.

David Bremner of Fyrish Crescent, Evanton appeared before Sheriff Ian Cruickshank at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted culpable and reckless conduct by setting the fire which ultimately also damaged a garage, lamppost and fence in Obsdale Road on June 9, 2022.

He also admitted illegal possession of a class C drug in the same location and same date.

Defence solicitor advocate Clare Russell told the court that her client was currently on a community payback order, and although the 37 year old had served previous jail sentences, she asked Sheriff Cruickshank to ask for a background report.

The sheriff agreed and Bremner will re-appear on August 25 for sentence. His bail was continued.
