THE mother of a 12-year-old Easter Ross lad going through treatment for a cancerous tumour has thanked well-wishers inspired by his plight.

Ben Hickman, a Tain Royal Academy pupil from Balintore, has been going through rounds of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in Aberdeen and Glasgow following the devastating diagnosis that turned family life upside down.

He was keen other kids would benefit from any fundraising ventures and that's just what has happened with a big-hearted free will-writing offer by legal firm Georgesons touched by his plight that has raised more than £3800 for The Archie Foundation, which works to improve the experience of children in hospital.

Mum Lisa said the family were pleased with the response and hopeful that Ben is now heading in the right direction with his treatment.

She said her son keeps in touch with friends at school via text messages and on his Xbox.

He is keeping up with school work whilst at hospital at a time when most of his pals are doing so from home.

gruelling rounds of chemotherapy and radiation have had an impact on the Sarcoma tumour with hopes now high that treatment could soon be drawing to an end.

His mum said: "He has been really good about it. He just gets on with it. We'll see how it goes."
