A TAIN glazier who threw a tree stump through the front window of his former partner's home has been fined and ordered to pay compensation at Inverness Sheriff Court.

Allyn Joy (51) of Burnside, Tain visited his former partner at Essich Gardens in Inverness.

Fiscal depute Niall Macdonald said the couple had been separated for 17 years but they had two grown-up children so they had always kept in touch.

Mr Macdonald said that on December 29, 2019 Joy was upset at the way he was being treated and he attended at the house and threw the tree stump through the window.

The police were contacted and his partner was told to lock herself in the bathroom.

Other family members were at home and when police attended they found Joy in the kitchen with a cut hand.

John MacColl, defence agent, said Joy had some concerns about the complainer and put the tree stump through the window to check she was alright.

He said Joy had no previous record to speak of.

Sheriff Robert Frazer asked what the cost of the damage to the window was and given the accused's employment he may be able to advise the court.

Mr MacColl said Joy estimated the damage at £150 to £180.

Sheriff Frazer imposed a fine of £600 and compensation of £250.
