AN Easter Ross community council has been formed uncontested.

But another within Ross-shire has failed to attract enough candidates to be formed.

Following last month’s announcement of interim community council elections for eight Highland communities, Highland Council has confirmed that five have been formed uncontested.

They include Tarbat Community Council which covers the communities of Portmahomack, Balnabruach, Rockfield, Tarbat Ness Peninsula and Geanies.

Successful candidates are Gillian Davey, Jimmy Philp and Jacqueline Thornhill.

Two community councils fall by the wayside

Following the close of nominations and the withdrawal period, the two community councils that failed to attract half the maximum membership so have not been established are Kinlochleven Community Council and Conon Bridge Community Council.

It was the second attempt to attract membership to Conon Bridge Community Council.

More nominations than vacancies were received for Minginish Community Council, so a postal ballot will be held.

Ballot papers are anticipated to be posted out to electors on Thursday 16 February 2023 and must be returned by no later than 12noon on Thursday 2 March 2023.
