A broken romance prompted an Alness man to spend months trying to win his ex-partner back.

But Inverness Sheriff Court was told that 48-year-old Andrew Hossack of Milnafua, went about it the wrong way and pestered the woman between August 1, 2020 and February 1, 2021.

Fiscal depute David Barclay said: "He was having difficulty accepting the relationship was over. During the period he would variously contact her to ask what she was up to, who she was seeing, with accusations of infidelity.

"He would also make enquiries of her friends and he would attend at her house uninvited, threatening self harm in an effort to wear her down. But there was no physicality.

"He just was not getting the message that she did not want anything to do with him." Mr Barclay added.

Defence solicitor Rory Gowans said that a background report which had been prepared prior to sentencing, stated that "he should have dealt with it more maturely and he requires intervention."

Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald agreed and placed Hossack under two year social work supervision.

She noted that he had two previous similar convictions for "being unable to come to terms with the end of relationships with two women.

"Your behaviour was alarming and frightening to these people and needs to be addressed."

She ordered Hossack to take part in a programme for men who domestically abuse their partners and imposed a two year long non harassment order to protect his latest victim.
