Easter celebrations underway with yarn-bombing on Dingwall High Street

The Dingwall yarn-bombers have been brightening up the town again as they encourage knitting-enthusiasts to join in the fun.

Yarn-bombing, as defined by Oxford Languages is the action of covering objects or structures in public places with decorative knitted material, as a form of street art – and Dingwall is the latest town to join in the fun.

Dingwall’s yarn-bombing group was founded by local artist and University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) art graduate, Sharon Marshall. The group have been bringing cheer to the Ross-shire county town throughout the year, with seasonal knits for every holiday, such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

As well as sharing their knitted creations to brighten the community, the group have also taken it upon themselves to raise cash for a worthy-cause in the town. The knitters are raising money for St Clements School, with collection tins located at The Veg Shop, The Spar Shop and West End Filling Station.

Dingwall Yarn-bombers said: “Our wee yarn-bomb group wanted to spread some Easter cheer to the town, and managed to cover 22 bollards up and down the high street, done to brighten up the town again.

“If you are a fellow knitter or crochet enthusiast, we meet on Fridays at 7pm in the community centre. Come and join us for some fun, tea, coffee and a blether!”
