A supermarket supervisor who stopped on a country road to make a phone call and smoke cannabis has been fined £320.

Aaron Macdonald (29) of Academy Street, Tain, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted being in charge of a car while having more than two mcgs of a cannabis derivative in his system.

Fiscal depute David Morton told Sheriff Margaret Neilson police saw his car on the B9163 between Conon and Cromarty and did a welfare check. They could smell cannabis and questioned Macdonald.

“He told officers that he stopped to make a phone call and smoke a joint,” Mr Morton added.

A blood test revealed he was over the prescribed limit of cannabis derivative for driving, with a reading of 2.4 mcgs.

As well as the fine Macdonald also received 10 penalty points.
