AN accident drew police attention to a drunk-driver in the street where he lived on Craig Road, Dingwall.

When officers carried out a breath test on Sandy Ross (33) on December 28, it revealed he was almost five times the legal limit.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard he had 101mcgs of alcohol in his breath when the limit is 22mcgs.

Ross admitted driving with excess alcohol.

His defence solicitor Graham Mann said: "It was a terrible error of judgement and he has expressed his shame."

Sheriff Gary Aitken fined Ross £640 and banned him from driving for 14 months.

But he certified him suitable for the drunk-driver rehabilitation scheme which Ross must fund himself.

If he is successful, he will earn a 14 week discount on his disqualification.
