Birthday girl Doris (100) celebrates special day at Urray House care home in Muir of Ord as party thrown in her honour

Doris Thompson has celebrated a big day in her Ross-shire care home.

Mrs Thompson marked her 100th birthday with family looking on and staff and residents inside throwing a party in her honour.

Mrs Thompson, a resident at Urray House in Muir of Ord, also received a congratulatory message from the Queen.

Shona MacGillivray, manager of Urray House, said: “Doris was delighted to see her family and even though Covid-19 restrictions meant they weren’t able to join the party indoors, everyone had a great time. Doris is such a loving, caring person and it meant the world to her to see her family on this special occasion.”

She met her husband and moved from Glasgow to Dingwall, where he became a solicitor with Duncan & Duncan.

They raised their two children in the area.

She is a keen gardener and enjoys spending time in the gardens at Urray House.

She also has four grandchildren.

In the year Doris was born, car tax discs were first introduced, Warren G. Harding was inaugurated as 29th President of the United States, the Duke of Edinburgh was born and the UK Cabinet met in Inverness to discuss the Irish situation, the first cabinet meeting to be held outside London.
