A 40-year-old man was given a chance to continue a rehabilitation programme to improve men's behaviour towards women.

Sandro Santos of Fyrish Crescent, Evanton, appeared for sentence at Inverness Sheriff Court after previously admitting threatening behaviour toward his partner in their home on May 14, 2021 and resisting arrest.

Fiscal depute Rowena Carlton told the court that Santos began shouting derogatory remarks towards the woman after threatening to self harm.

Then three days later he again argued with her, and Ms Carlton said his victim described him as "erupting" and "she was terrified."

"When she tried to get help from a neighbour he grabbed her, shouting abuse at her in the street and spitting on her." Ms Carlton went on.

The court heard police were called and Santos locked himself in his house before officers managed to get in.

Santos then fought with them as they tried to arrest him.

Sheriff Gary Aitken sentenced Santos to 160 hours of unpaid work with the condition that he continue with the men's programme.

He also imposed an 18-month non harassment order to protect Santos's partner.
