Gold mine plan could be a winner for Wester Ross residents
It was while sifting through its treasure trove of fascinating photographs that staff at Gairloch Museum realised there is an item that would have been worn by many back in the day that it would love to get hold off.
For its flashback Friday, it said: "Whilst looking through some old photos recently we’ve realised that our museum collection doesn’t contain an example of one of the Achtercairn Secondary School jumpers.
"Has anyone out there got one in the loft or at the back of a cupboard that they’d be willing to donate?"
The area now has a secondary – Gairloch High School – which has classes S1 to S6.
The school was originally called Achtercairn Secondary, starting with only two class years. In 1979 this was increased to four years.
In 1983 the school gained six-year status, which remains to this day. It was then that the school was officially named Gairloch High School.
Many former students recall being sent to complete secondary education at Dingwall Academy.
The museum is a recent joint Art Fund Museum of the Year winner and aims to provide an overview of 7000 years of history in its home, an imaginatively repurposed former nuclear bunker in the Wester Ross village.
