Disruption to trains on Highland lines continues after Storm Babet

Two Highland train lines will face major disruption today as works are carried out to repair damages caused by Storm Babet over the weekend.
ScotRail have announced that although most routes in the north and north east were expected to be open again this morning (Monday, October 23) the Wick/Thurso and Kyle lines remain closed with work ongoing to make them safe to be able to run trains again.
This means that Train services between Inverness and Wick will be cancelled or revised and trains between Inverness and Kyle Of Lochalsh have been suspended.
Yesterday an ice weather warning was issued by the Met Office, sparking concerns over the added risk of floodwaters in low temperatures.
Disruption is expected to last until the end of today.
Over the weekend Storm Babet caused extensive flooding and damages to roads in the Highlands – with key trunk roads such as the A9 and A835 closed for hours on Saturday after flooding left them dangerous and impassable in places.
Train services were suspended on several north lines since Thursday last week.
