The highly anticipated awards ceremony for Scotland’s prestigious Gaelic short–film competition, FilmG, is taking place in Glasgow on Thursday February 16, with Dingwall and Ullapool pupils up as leading nominees.

Presenters Fiona MacKenzie and Niall Iain MacDonald return to host the awards, which have seen a record number of entries and votes in the public vote categories this year.

Over 59,000 votes were received through the FilmG website, and the FilmG Choice Awards winners in both the Youth and Open competitions will be announced at the awards ceremony, alongside the 15 awards decided by a panel of independent judges.

FilmG have also announced that Ricochet, a Warner Bros. International Television Production company is the new sponsor of the Best Film category in the Open Competition, one of the most hotly–contested awards of any FilmG competition.

Lisa Cox, business director for Ricochet, said: “Ricochet is delighted to sponsor this award at FilmG, a competition and initiative that aligns closely with our aspirations to develop content and talent in Scotland.

“We’re always looking to uncover future stars, both in front of and behind the camera, and FilmG allows us to help us scout talent across Scotland, especially the Highlands and Islands.”

Murdo MacSween, FilmG project manager, said: “Welcoming Ricochet and Warner Bros. International Television Production along to FilmG is fantastic news and I’m sure it will inspire more and more Gaelic filmmakers to get involved with the competition in the future.

“We’re so grateful to Ricochet as part of Warner Bros. International Television Production and all of our FilmG sponsors for helping us celebrate what has been such a successful year.”

A live stream of the event will be broadcast, and a highlights programme will be shown on BBC ALBA and BBC iPlayer on February 24.
