A DINGWALL-based taxi firm is in the running for a national award.

C & E Taxis were nominated for the Mixed Fleet of the Year award in The Scottish Taxi, Private Hire and Chauffeur Awards.

They are one of 25 short-listed companies from across Scotland.

The company is celebrating its 40th year of business in 2022, whilst also saying goodbye to retiring company director James Campbell.

It was set up in 1982 by Charlie and Elsie Cumming. Mr Cumming sadly passed just before Christmas.

Mr Campbell has been at the business since 2004, and continues to do the school runs to “keep him out of trouble”, said daughter Shirley Campbell.

It is still very much a family-run business, as Mr Campbell’s grandson Brady (9) often helps around the yard cleaning cars and the office.

He was thrilled with the nomination, adding: “We’re very privileged that somebody would nominate us. After all the years of hard work I think it’s fair enough and well deserving to our team members. We will be extremely proud to win, but also are proud to be considered.

“We’re just coming up to completing 40 years of service, so it means a lot to us to mark this special occasion.”

“I am trying to retire, leaving C & E in the capable hands of Shirley, and it’s onwards and upwards I hope!”

They offer private hire, tours, airport transfers and regular taxi services.

The awards will take place on March 19 at the Hilton Double Tree in Glasgow. The public can vote for C & E Taxis online at https://onrank.co.uk/stphcawards/vote/
