AN award-winning Ross-shire singer is set to perform very close to home this weekend for a good cause after gigging in Spain.

Joanne Ross memorably stormed her way to victory in last year’s Ness Factor which raises funds for Highland Hospice.

The support worker from Dingwall received a standing ovation at the Drumossie Hotel for her performance of Proud by Heather Small at the event back in October.

Her winning performance saw her dubbed ‘Storm Joanne’ by one judge as it came during a time of particularly unsettled weather.

Now performing with her band John B’s Daughter, Joanne will take to the stage at the National Hotel in Dingwall this Saturday (April 6) after a quiz night event for mental health charity, Mikeysline.

Joanne said: “We have been so busy with enquiries since I won the Ness Factor last year. We are just back from Tenerife where we were playing gigs and the response we had was incredible. So many people from Ross-shire were in Tenerife at the time and came to see us at the gigs.”

She has never looked back since taking a step out of her comfort zone to boost the coffers of the end of life care charity Highland Hospice charity, a cause close to her heart.

To prepare for the singing competition she worked twice weekly with professional singing coaches ahead of the live final where she wowed a panel of judges and an audience of over 350 guests.

Her grandfather, Dodo Ross, was part of local band The Melotones back in the day.

She said the hospice has always been close to her heart after seeing how it helping a close family friend.

The quiz is being hosted by The National Hotel on Saturday.

There’s free entry on Saturday but donations at the door “would be very welcome”.
