A SPECIAL school in Dingwall has been the beneficiary of “extraordinary” community support after two local women managed to raise hundreds of pounds through a charity raffle.

Mhairi Fazekas and Joanne Raeburn staged a Hogmanay raffle run through the Ross-shire Club which generated £300 for the school.

Around a dozen local businesses offered prizes including the Sports and Model shop, Edinburgh Woollen Mills, Strathpeffer golf club and Peppermint Beauty Salon, among others.

Mrs Fazekas said: “We started selling tickets before Hogmanay and posted it on social media so when people found out it was for St Clements, it helped get people involved.

“People knowing that it was for St Clements definitely helped because Dingwall is a close-knit community and were more likely to be interested knowing that the money was going there rather than further afield.

“Certainly the school was very appreciative because they said it is difficult to raise money at that time of year and the kids were very excited wondering what the money would be spent on.”

Earlier, Christyna Ferguson whose daughter goes to the school, said the local community had offered the school “extraordinary support over the years”.

She added: “It is unbelievable how good the support for St Clements is.

“I think people are proud of the school and what it does and want to see it improved.

“It is just unbelievable, I have never seen anything like it.”
