A motorist who was found slumped over the wheel of his car holding a syringe of methodone with a bent needle was fined £520 for being in charge of his vehicle while unfit through drink or drugs.

Lewis Cameron, of Wards Drive, Muir of Ord also had his driving licence with 10 penalty points. But as he already had an endorsement, the 44-year-old was banned for six months under the totting up procedure.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that a concerned passer-by found Cameron in Craig Road, Dingwall and tried to rouse him.

Fiscal depute Emily Hood said he handed over his keys and added he did not intend to drive. Police were called.
