Dingwall mart prices from Aberdeen Angus, native and continental store cattle sale

DINGWALL and Highland Marts sold 627 store cattle at their annual sale of Aberdeen Angus, native and continental store cattle yesterday.

Aberdeen Angus bullocks (225) averaged 231.5p (up 7.9p on the year) and sold to 305.6p per kg for a 180kg from Breakachy, Laggan and £1,420 gross for a pen of 630kg from Stempster Mains, Halkirk.

Aberdeen Angus heifers (131) averaged 208.9p (up 7.1p on the year) and sold to 221.5p per kg for a pair of 377kg from Rhindhu Farms, Ballindalloch and £1,510 gross for a 725kg from 1 Raddery, Fortrose.

Aberdeen Angus Young Bulls (1) sold to 198.1p per kg and £1,040 gross for a 525kg from Wester Fearn, Ardgay.

Other native bred bullocks (130) averaged 224.5p (up 21.6p on the year) and sold to 261.2p per kg for a pair of 470kg Wagu crosses from Knockdee Farm, Halkirk and £1,350 gross for a pair of 640kg Beef Shorthorns also from Knockdee Farm, Halkirk.

Other native bred heifers (63) averaged 214.8p (up 12.1p on the year) and sold to 252.8p per kg for a pen of 269kg Luings from Isle of Muck Farms and £1,240 gross for a 565kg Beef Shorthorn from Balliefurth Farm, Grantown on Spey.

Other native breed Young Bulls (4) averaged 195.8p and sold to 227.2p and £1,420 gross for a 625kg Beef Shorthorn from Upperton, Balnain.

Continental bullocks (48) averaged 233.1p (up 14.0p on the year) and sold to 275.9p per kg for a 270kg Simmental cross from Isle of Muck Farms and £1,160 gross for a 555kg Simmental cross from 34 Newmarket, Laxdale.

Continental heifers (25) averaged 221.2p (up 3.8p on the year) and sold to 242.2p per kg for a pen of 225kg Simmental crosses from Isle of Muck Farms and £1,130 gross for a 505kg Charolais cross from 34 Newmarket, Laxdale.

The mart verdict: “A great show forward of well-conditioned native cattle which reflected in the price per kilo.”

It also sold 26 OTM cattle.

OTM prime & feeding cows (25) averaged 142.3p and sold to 290.0p per kg for a 360kg Simmental cross from March Fam, Bonnykelly and £1,180 gross for a 720kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Achintoul.

OTM bulls (1) sold to 200.0p per kg and £1,192 gross for an 596kg Simmental from 11 Ferintosh, Conon Bridge.
