A DINGWALL man has been appointed as the new director of piping at the College of Piping in Glasgow.
Colin MacLellan will lead the development of the college’s teaching programme, helping to keep it at the forefront of bagpipe teaching and research in the world.
A very successful solo piper, Mr MacLellan has won the Gold Medals at both the Argyllshire Gathering and the Northern Meeting, and has also played in pipe bands at the very highest level, most recently with Spirit of Scotland in 2016.
No longer competing, he is a senior adjudicator in both piobaireachd and light music and has judged all of the very top competitions.
He has previously been president of the Competing Pipers’ Association and chairman of the Piping and Drumming Qualifications Board, both in Scotland, and holds BA degrees in politics and education.
Joining the College of Piping will be a return move for Mr MacLellan since he started his teaching career at the college aged 18, before moving to Canada where he lived for 22 years.
He said; "I am very pleased to have been appointed director of piping at the college at this most important time in its history.
"I look forward to working with the board and the current staff in shaping college instruction by way of new innovative teaching programmes here in Scotland, as well as further afield."
